Shirley Jean (Cansler) Hancock

February 23, 1939 ~ March 12, 2018 (age 79) 79 Years Old

     Shirley Jean Cansler Hancock, age 79, of Henderson, entered eternal rest at 12:38 p.m. Monday March 12, 2018 at RedBanks Nursing Home in Henderson.  Born February 23, 1939 in Du Quoin,IL. she was the daughter of the late Jasper Cansler and Sarah Hicks Cansler.  She was a member of Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson where she served faithfully as a member of the Mothers Board, Circle #4, Priscilla Circle, The Litia Circle, and in many other capacities.  She was a graduate of Douglass High School.  On September 18, 2010 she was honored with a certificate from the City of Henderson of Bicentennial Celebration and African American Contributions from the then Mayor Thomas E. Davis.  She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Hancock who died on March 20, 1992; and by one son, Dexter Allen Hancock.  She leaves behind to cherish loving memories four sons, William "Bill" (Yvonne) Hancock of Henderson, John Anthony Hancock of Henderson, Derek Eugene Hancock of Nashville,TN., and Don Hancock of Evansville,IN.; five daughters, Catherine Gray of Henderson, Sylvia Cansler of Henderson, Darlene (Dale) Buckner of Henderson, Sherry Hancock of Henderson, and Grace (Corey) Wilson of Hamden,CT.; one special aunt, Ruth Lee Hancock of Henderson; two special cousins, Rosa Woods and Carnie Moore both of Henderson; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.  Her life will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Friday March 16, 2018 at Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.  The Pastor Charles E. Johnson will officiate.  Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson.  Visitation and Wake services will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday March 16, 2018 at the church.  A Celebration of Life DVD will be shown in her memory.
