Alfred Jerone Couch Jr., 47, of Hanson, KY., formerly of Madisonville, passed away peacefully at 7:17 p.m. on Monday December 9, 2024 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville with his family by his side.  

A native of Madisonville, he was born to Alfred Couch Sr. and the late Andrea Renee Pettus Couch on March 1, 1977.

At a young age he lived in Germany with his mother and stepfather and was a participate in the Summer Special Olympics there in Germany. He and his family moved to Maryland there he graduated High School and the Upward Training, Life Skills and Development Program. The family then moved to Ohio. He lived with his mom Renee Jones and brother Eric Jones in Columbus, Ohio. There he became Ohio State Buckeyes “Biggest Fan.” After his mother’s death he was cared for by his brother Eric and Desiree. He cherished his family especially, his nephews and niece. In 2020, He came to live with his dad and stepmom, Alfred and Roberta Couch, in Hanson, Kentucky. He kept a special contact with his Ohio family and friends. He enjoyed going to church and made new friends at Living Word Fellowship in Evansville, Indiana.

Alfred was a patient at the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Madisonville, Kentucky. There, he met new friends and was cared for by the doctors, the nurses and the staff. He attended Trace Industries where he enjoyed working and being involved in a social setting. He made many friends with TRACE Staff, Social Workers, Social Specialist and trace members. 

Alfred was a Special Olympics Medal recipient and received the Donor Medal of Honor Award which recognizes the Gift of Life through Organ, Tissue, and Eye Donation Leaving a Legacy of Hope.  

Alfred loved artwork, painting, and being creative with his hands.

Most of all Alfred enjoyed spending time with his father and mother, family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his mother Andea Renee Pettus Couch Jones who died on October 6, 2014; Grandparents: Robert and Anna Deloris Pettus and Columbus and Ora Lee Couch Pettus; brother: Willie L. Hopkins; Pettus Uncles: Keith Pettus, Larry Pettus, Barry Pettus and Michael Pettus. Couch Uncles: Sonny Couch, Doc Couch, Chris Couch, William Couch, Herman Couch, and Ivan Couch. Aunts: Cheryl and Tracy Pettus and Alice Couch.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His father Alfred (Roberta) Couch of Hanson; 3 brothers: Keith Johnson of Pennsylvania, Eric Jones of Columbus, Ohio, and  Isaac Couch of Chicago, Illinois:  Aunts: Valerie Pettus and Dora Banks. Uncles: Jeff Pettus, Calvin (Deidre) Couch, Frank (Daphne) Couch.  Extended family Desiree McCarey of Columbus, Ohio who also was his caregiver; along with many family members of nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends. 

The family wishes to thank the people at Fresenius, Trace Industries, Baptist Health Deaconess, doctors, nurses and Network of Hope for their care teams and services. We thank everyone and appreciate your prayers, condolences and all acts of kindness shown at this time of bereavement.

Alfred's life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 18, 2024 at Elliott-Bowles Mortuary Chapel. 

The Reverend Terry Slaton will be the eulogist with the Reverend Robert L. Cottoner as officiant.  

Visitation and wake services will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
