Bobby Lane Johnson Sr., age 67, of Madisonville, entered into his eternal rest at 1:56 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020, at Baptist Health in Madisonville. Born January 10, 1953, in Madisonville, he was the son of the late William Johnson and Katherine Jones-Johnson. He was a member of the Branch Street Church of God in Christ in Madisonville, where he served faithfully for many years. He was a current Madisonville City Councilman representing Ward 6 for nearly 4 years and a retired member of the Madisonville Police Department after 33 years of service, where he served as Chief of Police for 6 years. During his time at Madisonville Police Department, he was elected to the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Board serving as the Western Kentucky Chairman. He was active in many local community leadership capacities including serving on the Midwest Kentucky American Red Cross Board, a Big Brothers Big Sisters board member, past co-chairman of the United Way of Hopkins County, president of the Madisonville Rotary Club, director of the Madisonville ABA for over 20 years, and vice-president of the Rosenwald-Smith Multicultural Center. He was the recipient of the 2018 Man of the Year Honor by the Madisonville Lions Club and honored by the Kentucky League of Cities in October 2019. He entered the Madisonville All-Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a 1971 graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School, attended Western Kentucky University, was an avid University of Kentucky fan, and a former car salesman. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Barbara Diana Johnson; one brother, Kenneth Johnson; and one sister, Beverly Williams. He leaves to cherish loving memories one son, Bobby (Alexis) Johnson Jr. of Madisonville; one daughter, Brook Johnson of Madisonville; two brothers, James Johnson of Madisonville and Rickey (Stephanie) Johnson of Providence; five sisters, Brenda (Wendell) Martin of Madisonville, Stella Drake of Lithonia, Georgia, Connie (Bill) McReynolds of Madisonville, Tonnette (Sam) Huskey of Madisonville, and Stacy (Benny) Davis of Madisonville; five grandchildren, Bobby Johnson III, Bryson Johnson, Brashyia Peyton, Bryanne Johnson, and Brayden Johnson; two aunts, Vernon Burns of Chicago, Illinois and Ladonnia Cowan of Madisonville; one brother-in-law, Harold (Lillie) Campbell of Madisonville; four sisters-in-law, Linda Manion of Salem, Ohio, Laura Campbell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Carol Sherrod of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Gonzella (James) Hardy of Madisonville; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. His life will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, at First Baptist Church, 246 N. Main Street in Madisonville. The Elder Kenneth Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Westside Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation and wake services will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 28 at Branch Street Church of God in Christ, 445 Branch Street Madisonville, and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 29 at First Baptist Church in Madisonville.  Police funeral honors will be performed by the Madisonville Police Department Honor Guard.  Elliott Mortuary in Madisonville is in charge of the arrangements.
