Charles Thomas Martin, 71, of Madisonville, departed this life Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at Brighton Cornerstone Healthcare in Madisonville. Charles was born the son of the late Roy Martin Jr. and Lula Ophelia McFarland Sharp; stepfather, George P. Sharp. He attended Zion Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Madisonville, had worked as an elevator operator, and attended Branch Street School. He loved his cars, hosting family and friends in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby, and eating. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl (Bishop) Martin; sisters Georgia Sharp Campbell and Joanne Sharp Smalls; and grandparents Albert and Allie McFarland whom he adored and loved very much. Survivors include a son, Antonio (Cierra) Byrd of Monroe, Georgia; brothers James Sharp of Springfield, Massachusetts, Gary Sharp and Donnie (Brenda) Sharp of Madisonville, Kentucky; sisters Stacia Sharp Mayes and Connie Sharp both of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Vanessa (Wayne) Sharp Huff of Hope Mils, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Jerquarius, Ayana, and Jshawn of Monroe, Georgia; a very loving aunt Bobbie J. (Calvin) Reaves of Cleveland, Ohio, and one uncle Huland Patton of Madisonville, Kentucky; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A private graveside service for immediate family only will be noon Tuesday at Elliott Memorial Gardens in Madisonville. The Rev. Robert L. Cottoner will officiate. Masks are required.
