Deacon Terry Lynn Snorton

Terry Lynn Snorton, 69, of Madisonville, passed away peacefully at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday March 19, 2024 at University of Louisville Health Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky with his family by his side. 

A native of Hopkins County, Kentucky he was born to the late Grover Snorton Sr. and Esther Sullinger Snorton on August 4, 1954. 

He was an active member of Branch Street Church of God in Christ in Madisonville where he served faithfully in many capacities including as a Deacon, Finance Department Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent (for a brief period), and Security Guard. 

Terry graduated from South Hopkins High School.  He retired from Kentucky Utilities Electric Company as a meter technician and earned a certificate from the School of Electricity in Madisonville.  He was currently employed with Hopkins County Board of Education Transportation Department.  He was also a self-employed Lawn Care business owner.     

Terry loved his family and people.  The community loved him.  He had an outgoing personality, many friends, and was a best friend to all.  He never met a stranger and always had a smile out of this world.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, landscaping, planting flowers, and had a love for cars. 

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by four brothers Grover Snorton Jr., Larry Snorton, Johnny Snorton, and Gordon Snorton; one sister, Deborah Smith; and by one grandson, Justin Tyler Snorton. 

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories, his loving and devoted wife of 45 years and whom he married on September 23, 1978, Vivian Scisney Snorton of Madisonville; one son, Justin Snorton of Norfolk, Nebraska; three daughters, India Rice of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kristy Martin and Jillian Martin both of Madisonville; one brother, Donnis Snorton of Bedford, Indiana; one sister, Barbara (Al) Swisher of Leucadia, California; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. 

His life will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Monday March 25, 2024 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Madisonville. 

The Elder Kenneth Walker will officiate. 

Burial will be in Westside Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. 

Visitation and wake services will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
