Dorothy Jean Mitchell Collins, 83, entered into the eternal presence of the Almighty God at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday January 6, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville,Indiana. Dorothy was the 6th born child to the union of Roy D and Gracie Mae Mitchell on January 29, 1937. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a devoted member of Zion Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Madisonville Ky. She was a deaconess, soloist and member of the Senior Choir. She attended Rosenwald High School and was formerly employed by Senior Citizens Nursing Home and Western Kentucky Hospital Services. In her younger years she was very active and enjoyed dancing, skating, bowling, bicycle riding, cooking and singing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Roy D. Mitchell Jr, Sisters Sadie Mae Johnson and Irene Grundy, and her loving and faithful husband of 39 Years, Mr. Alfred E Collins Sr. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children Alfred E Collins Jr ( Sheila), Fayetteville Georgia, Patty Collins, Evansville Indiana, Beverly Collins Adams, Jonathon Collins, and Shamra Rodriguez all of Atlanta Georgia. Two Sisters Lucille Morrison and Bertha Mitchell and one Brother Curtis N. Mitchell ( Sherrie) all of Madisonville Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Monday January 11 at Elliott Mortuary Chapel. The Reverend Deborah Slaton will officiate. Burial will be in Westside Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Visitation and wake services will be a walk-through beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions masks are required. The service will be live-streamed on Elliott Mortuary facebook page beginning at 1:00 p.m. central time.
