Lynwood Cowan Obituary

Lynwood Cowan, 67, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Monday April 1, 2024 at his home.

A native of Paris, Tennessee, he was born to the late Reverend Frank Scott Cowan and Ella Irene Dawson Cowan on February 23, 1957.

He was the second of six children born to their union.

Lynwood's life was the embodiment of the famous Frank Sinatra song "I Did It My Way".

As soon as Lynwood was old enough to light a fire and crack an egg he became the family cook.  Lynwood grew up loving to hunt and fish on his grandfather's farm land in Henry County, Tennessee.  Because of his height and skill he was a standout High School basketball player at Union County High School graduating in 1976.  As a starting forward on the Braves Team he earned a scholarship to study at Indiana State University in Evansville, Indiana.  And even though Lynwood grew up in a family of preachers and pastors, when he heard the "Call" to proclaim the Word he chose to go on the road evangelizing as a long distance truck driver for years.  A traditional family life and relationships eluded Lynwood.  He never gave up and married several times in the quest for his "Happy Ever After".

Lynwood has been preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Reverend Glenn Cowan, sisters Lt. Brenda Denise Cowan, Helen Oneda Cowan and a baby son.

Left to continue their life's journey are: brother Fred Jerome Cowan of Bowling Green, Kentucky; sister, Myrtle Louise Cowan of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; niece, Tania Imoto and a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services in Celebration of Lynwood's Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday April 8, 2024 at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Sturgis.

The Reverend Ronald L. Burkins will officiate.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time Monday at the church.
