Miller Stone Obituary

Miller O'Neal Stone, age 90, of Earlington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at 8:02 p.m. Friday December 20, 2024 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville with his family by his side.

A native of Earlington, he was born to the late L.T. Stone and Gertrude Pettus on January 26, 1934.

He was a member of Gough Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion church in Earlington where he served faithfully on the Trustee Board and as a Conference worker.

He retired from Island Creek Coal Company as a coal miner.

He was fondly called "Neal" by many of his family and friends, and was an outstanding citizen in Hopkins County where he was known and loved by everyone who knew him.  He would always help people and never met a stranger.  He loved the outdoors and walking, listening to blues music and his favorite blues artist B.B. King, watching sports, and was an avid U of L Cardinals fan.

Most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; brothers and sisters; and extended family members who were the joy of his life, all of whom will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one son, William Edward Stone; one step-daughter, Anita Jernigan; four brothers, John "Doc" White Sr., George White Sr., Jackie Pettus, and Leroy Pettus; one step-brother, Tom Evans; four sisters, Anna Bell Pettus, Rosie Mae Russell, Lavern Simms, and Beatrice Pettus; and two step-sisters, Olivia Grayson and Wilma Jean Noel.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his wife, Melissa Allene Stone of Louisville, Kentucky; three sons, Larry Stone of Earlington, Greg (Tonya) Stone of Danville, Virginia, and David Stone of Indianapolis, Indiana; five daughters, Betty Morris of Earlington, Wendell Rivers of Earlington, Lisa Stone of Littleton, Colorado, Melissa (Lester) Wells of Madisonville, and Claudia Browder of Earlington; three brothers, James A. Pettus of Danville, Virginia, Lorandus Stone Jr. of Louisville, and David Earl Stone of Earlington; two sisters, Gloria Stone of Earlington and Charmaine Stone of Madisonville; 15 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

His life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 28, 2024 at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Earlington.

The Reverend Terrence Minor will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.

Visitation and wake services will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
