Quincy Gary Obituary

Quincy Gary went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2024, at Baptist Deaconess Hospital in Madisonville, Kentucky. He was born on February 25, 1948, in Lodi, MS, to late Essie Mae and Earl Gary. Quincy was preceded in death by his sister, Senophia Gary; two brothers, Earl Gary and X-Zenton Gary; and his beloved niece, Lisa Gary, whom he cherished dearly.

Left to honor and celebrate his memory is his devoted wife of 51 years, Gwen Gary. Quincy is also survived by his three daughters: Stephanie (Daryl) Donson of Oak Grove, KY; Stacie Gary of Louisville, KY; and Shellie (Steve) Cheirs of Madisonville, KY. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: De’Von Hines, Darryl (Tam’ara) Hines, Dominique Gary, Donovan (Kayleigh) Gary, DeSean (Shelly) Hines, Diamond Gary, Destin Cheirs, and Davin Cheirs. He is now reunited in heaven with his great-granddaughter Dionna Serenity Bufford. Quincy is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Jonavan Reese, Braylon Ollila-Hines, Tamier Hines, Draya Correthers, Sebastian Gary, A’leah Ollila-Hines, Quincy Gary, Jai’Lynn Turner, A’Mora Gary, Philoren Hines, and Xyla Hines.

In addition to his immediate family, Quincy is survived by his siblings, Cecil (Susan) Allen of Murfreesboro, TN, and Venus Allen of Nashville, TN; his aunt, Dr. Jesse (Clifford) Campbell of Tullahoma, TN; uncle Carl Gary of Kilmichael, MS; a nephew; and a host of cousins. He will be especially missed by his mother-in-law, Mary Radford, who often inquired about him in her later years.

From an early age, Quincy dedicated his heart to the Lord. He was a long-time member of Eastview Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon under the leadership of Phillip L. Hodge, Sr. He recently transferred his membership to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Quincy had a passion for riding motorcycles and attending bass fishing tournaments, but his greatest love was his career as a truck driver and owner-operator for over 50 years. He worked diligently to establish his own trucking company, Quincy Gary Trucking, where he transported everything from dry van goods to heavy haul trucking. Notably, he was the first semi-driver to haul the Madisonville North Hopkins Marching Maroon band trailer.

An Army veteran, Quincy served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC, during the Vietnam era. He was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 6, where he proudly served as a Legion Rider and a service officer, assisting fellow service members in obtaining their medals and benefits. Quincy was also a proud member of the Hopkins County American Legion Honor Guard.

Quincy earned the esteemed title of Kentucky Colonel under Governor Ernie Fletcher. He was a PHA Mason and served as a facilitator for many years at Kentucky Boys State in Muhlenberg County. His life was marked by service, including volunteering for Hopkins County Emergency Management Services, where he helped rescue individuals during local disasters.

Quincy Gary lived a life of dedication, love, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
