Silas Herschel Woolfolk, 82, of Providence, passed away peacefully at 11:51 a.m. Monday January 13, 2025 at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.
A native of West Virginia, he was born to the late Charlie Woolfolk and Odie Inez Blackburn Woolfolk on September 28, 1942.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Providence and had worked at Gibbs Die Casting in Henderson as a machinery operator, Trover Clinic in Providence as a custodian, Speed Queen Manufacturing Plant in Madisonville as a machinery operator where he retired, and for the former Williams Funeral Home in Providence.
He was a pianist and taught piano as well, a photographer where he would take pictures at community events and family events, a dog groomer, loved fishing, loved sewing, loved cooking and baking, for he was known for his egg pies and chocolate cakes, and was a Commonwealth of Kentucky Notary Public.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, John Royster Woolfolk and Jimmy Woolfork Sr.; three sisters, Margaret Jean Pillow, Betty Jane Davis, and Joan Ann Brooks.
He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his wife of 16 years, Katherine Hay Woolfolk of Henderson; two sons, Freddie L. Tapp and James D. Hay both of Henderson; one brother, Aurelious (Estelita) Woolfolk of Providence; two sisters, Carolyn Hooks of Providence and Gwendolyn Woolfolk (David) of Evansville,In.; six grandchildren, Nicholas Tapp, Desiree Tapp, Hailee Tapp, Jayden Hay, Karah Hay, and Alexandria Hay Bartley; three great-grandchildren, Kyron Tapp, Tay-lyn Tapp, and Roz Lyn Tapp; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and friends.
His life will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Sunday January 19, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Providence.
Pastor Paris Johnson will eulogize with Associate Minister Wayne Belle as officiant.
Burial will be in Cumberland Hill Cemetery in Providence.
Visitation and wake services will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Sunday at the church.
