Willie Gilmore Obituary

Willie Edward Gilmore, 88, formerly of Providence, passed away peacefully at 8:16 a.m. Sunday September 22, 2024 at Fordsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fordsville, Kentucky.

A native of Wadley, Georgia he was born to the late Cohen Gilmore and Thelma Spivey Gilmore on February 21, 1936, whom he cherished and honored while they were living.  For his favorite scripture was Exodus 20:12 (King James Version) "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee".

He was a retired self-employed electrician, plumber, and construction worker who would volunteer his services to help many people.

He was a loving and devoted father to his children, loving grandfather to his grandchildren, and loving brother to his siblings, whom all he enjoyed spending time with and were the joy of his life.  He was known for bringing laughter in the room to his family and friends with his many jokes and was a true family man.

He loved hunting, fishing and dancing.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by four brothers Willie C. Gilmore, Cohen Gilmore Jr., Daniel Gilmore, and Roosevelt Hudson; by three sisters Mattie Hudson, Bernice McIntosh, and Barbara Jean Williams; and by two deceased grandchildren.

He leaves behind to cherish his loving memories one son, Marvin (Tiffany) Gilmore of Nortonville; three daughters, Patsy Gilmore of Hopkinsville, Elizabeth Ann Gilmore Gray of Madisonville, and Thelma Gilmore of Providence; three brothers, Neil Gilmore of Wadley, Georgia, James (Blanche) Gilmore of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Myles Gilmore of Wadley, Georgia and a former brother-in-law who was his close friend, Leon Starks of Evansville, Indiana; three sisters, Elma C. Swint of Savannah, Georgia, Nola Gilmore of Brooklyn, New York, and Addie Lee Brinson of Wadley, Georgia; two step-children he raised, Gloria Wilson of Providence and Perry Gilmore Starks of Madisonville; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
